Andy Taylor takes a look at The Fly Shop Diawl Bachs
Those of you who have inspected the contents of your marrow spoon from dispatched stillwater trout will have noticed how slim and small some of our buzzers are, especially mid to late season. Sometimes the patterns we buy are too overdressed to get anywhere near imitating the naturals. The range of Diawl Bachs from the Fly Shop hit the nail on the head in terms of their slim profile and clever trigger points. The Diawl Bach range use a nice mix of either Jungle Cock cheeks, hot heads, flashbacks or coloured ribs to give just enough flavour to their patterns. I like the Al’s Red and the Black Flashback Diawls- you just know they will catch. These Diawls are tied on good quality barbed and barbless hooks and are mainly available in size 10 or 12’s.
The Fly Shop is the brainchild of top competition angler Wayne Jones. Many of the patterns are from Wayne’s fly box or from his fellow Welsh Hawk teams mates as well as other top competition anglers. You know that you’re getting a fish catching pattern when you see where these flies were developed!
Flies are available direct from The Fly Shop.
